On June 15, 2019, Tania and I set out to explore a new fishing area. We started heading northeast of Ft Pierce Inlet. As we set out, the sky seemed ominous, threatening to drench us in rain. However, fortune smiled upon us, and the impending storm dissipated before it could shower us with its downpour.

The conditions out at sea were not ideal, but they were far from unbearable. Throughout the day, a steady east wind blew, and the waves were about 2 feet. We discovered a reef which was full of life by the sonar and we were the only boat as far as the eye could see. It was a refreshing change from the spot we usually frequented, which always seemed to attract a crowd.

Although the bite wasn’t hot today, it remained consistent, keeping our spirits high. Among our bountiful catch were a triggerfish, a mangrove snapper, six lane snappers, a couple of grunts, a porgy, and even a flounder. The excitement peaked when I felt a powerful tug on my free line, but unfortunately, I failed to hook the elusive creature. When I reeled in the line, I discovered that my stinger leader had been severely mangled, leaving me with only half of the bait.

Throughout the day, we had the privilege of encountering nine sea turtles gracefully swimming alongside our boat. Tania, loves sea turtles and it always brings her joy when we get to see them in their natural habitat.

As the day drew to a close, I couldn’t help but feel immense gratitude for the wonderful experiences Tania and I shared. The memories we made this day will last us a lifetime.
