There are certain moments in life that are truly special, and one such occasion unfolded recently when Tania, our son Devin, and I embarked on a fishing adventure at the spillway. With a heart full of excitement and a desire to create lasting memories, we set out to explore the wonders of nature and reel in some remarkable catches.

We started our adventure with a stop at Jigs Bait and Tackle. With the goal of ensuring a successful fishing trip, we stocked up on a few dozen shiner, one of my favorite baits for the spillway.

As we arrived at the spillway, we prepared ourselves for an evening filled with excitement, laughter, and, of course, fishing. The bite was slow this evening. About 30 minutes passed before the first bite. Devin hooked up with and the first fish. To our delight he got the snook, which was the fish he was after. The excitement on his face was contagious, filling our hearts with joy and pride.

As we continued to fish Devin landed a Florida gar.  These fish are hard to hook and catch. Most of the time, Tania and I just lose our bait to them. While we may have lost a fair share of bait to their cunning tactics, we couldn’t help but appreciate the impressive display of nature’s diversity and the thrill of encountering these prehistoric-looking creatures.

Time seemed to fly as we immersed ourselves in the joys of fishing and quality family time. Although we were enjoying our time together, the Florida bugs decided to make their presence known and we ended up calling the fishing trip short.

Our fishing adventure at the spillway with Devin was a good one. I would have liked to put Tania on a few fish, but the goal was to get Devin a snook and we succeeded! Tania and I pray all who made it out so far this week had a blessed and safe trip full of tight lines and good times.
