March 21, 2021 was a lazy day for Tania and I. We decided to sleep in and treat ourselves to breakfast since neither of us wanted to cook. After a leisurely breakfast, we ran a few errands before heading back home. On the drive back, I noticed that the winds weren’t as bad as predicted, so I asked Tania if she’d be interested in going fishing. She agreed, and without wasting any time, I called up Freedom Boat Club and reserved a boat for our little adventure.
Once we got home, we quickly changed into our fishing gear, packed the car with our supplies, and set off for the dock. By 1:30 pm, we had arrived at the dock, ready to set sail. It was a beautiful day, and the water looked inviting as we headed out. Our plan was to start by drift with the incoming tide, just south of the South Causeway Bridge. Unfortunately, after about 30 minutes we had no bites.
Undeterred, we decided to anchor up near the waste treatment plant, and it didn’t take long for both Tania and I to feel the excitement of getting bites. After a brief wait, I managed to reel in a 13-inch sheepshead. The action continued for a while, but then the wind suddenly picked up, making it a bit challenging to fish in our current spot. We decided to relocate to one of our other favorite spots, but to our dismay, someone else was already there, so we opted to try our luck near a channel marker.
Tania struck first, catching a catfish almost immediately. Shortly after, I reeled in another sheepshead, and this one measured 14 inches. Unfortunately, the strong winds and currents were making it difficult to maintain our position while anchored, so we eventually decided to call it a day. Despite the shorter fishing trip, we were pleased to head home with a few fish.
Our day wasn’t over yet though; after docking up at Little Jim’s, we met up with our good friends, Gil and Lisa. We shared stories about our fishing adventures as we enjoyed each other’s company while listening to live music.
Tania and I pray all who make it out this week have a blessed fishing trip. May you have tight lines and good times.
