Hooked on Relaxation: Our Surf Fishing Adventure!

On October 23, 2021, Tania and I decided to go surf fishing! We woke up at 6:00 a.m. and headed to Blue Heron Road. We were slow to get going this morning, so it was about 7:00 a.m. before we reached the beach. It was 7:20 a.m. when we were at our spot and had lines wet. Today, three people were on the beach when we arrived, so we had to walk a bit further down the beach than usual, but it wasn’t too bad.

It was about 7:40 a.m. when Tania caught the first fish. She landed a keeper pompano! The bite was a bit slow, but it was steady. We were getting bites or catching fish every 15-20 minutes. Around 8:00 a.m., I noticed some glass minnows wash up on shore, so I collected them and put them in our bucket. I threw out one of our three rods in the first trough with live glass minnows. I hoped to catch a snook or whatever was chasing the glass minnows on shore.

I managed to land a ladyfish on the glass minnows; however, I mostly fed the fish as I lost the rest of them. I switched the rod back over to Fishbites, which worked well as we landed two keeper pompanos on it.

At about noon, I was so relaxed I started to fall asleep in my chair. At this point, I told Tania it was time to go, as I didn’t want to lose a rod and reel if I fell asleep and hooked something large. We ended up taking home four pompano!

Overall, we had a great relaxing day sitting on the beach. Tania and I pray all who have made it out this week had blessed and safe trips. May all who are going out the rest of the week have tight lines and good times!
