I took the day off as I had to work all weekend—about 11:00 a.m. I made impromptu plans for a solo fishing trip; however, I felt prompted to call my buddy Perry to see if he wanted to go with me. Legally blind but undeterred, Perry’s company added a layer of excitement to what would become a remarkable adventure on a Thursday afternoon. Join us as we share laughter, fellowship, and a few surprises during our fishing escapade, which began around noon and ended promptly at 3:00 p.m.
I loaded my car at about 11:45 a.m., just as I was ready to leave my house. I felt a tug to call my buddy Perry. I hadn’t been fishing with him for a few months, so I made a quick call, and Perry was on board, joining me on this unplanned fishing journey that promised to make our Thursday memorable.
On my way to pick up Perry at the doctor’s office, I stopped at Jigs Bait and Tackle to pick up a few dozen shiners. Once I got the bait, I headed off to pick up Perry. After I picked up Perry, we headed a mile down the road to our first fishing spot.
We arrived at a tranquil pond at the southwest corner of SE Hollmoor Dr and SE Grand Dr. Since Perry is losing sight; I put a bright orange cork popper as it helps him feel more comfortable. Perry was the first to make a catch—a spirited 10-inch bass that set a positive tone for our midday adventure. We fished this spot for about 30 minutes, and I decided to change locations after I lost a few baits to the turtles.
Seeking new waters, we ventured to the pond at Rotary Park, hoping to catch a few more fish. Here, I had the thrill of reeling in a feisty 12-inch bass, accompanied by Perry’s encouraging cheers. Perry also lost a few baits here but did not land any fish.
As the clock ticked towards 2:00 p.m., we circled back to the pond near Perry’s house, set against a scenic golf course. Memories of a previous 5lb bass fueled our anticipation. Despite both facing the frustration of losing a few battles with elusive fish, the pond yielded only a few new catches before our bait supplies dwindled, concluding our adventure as the clock struck 3:00 p.m.
As we wrapped up our fishing rods and packed our gear, Perry and I reflected on the unexpected joy this midday fishing trip brought us. Perry’s unwavering spirit and determination shone brightly, turning an ordinary Thursday afternoon into a cherished memory. As I dropped Perry off at home, I prayed over him and wished him well until our next trip.
Tania and I send our best wishes to all fellow anglers, hoping your fishing adventures are safe, blessed, and full of tight lines and good times! Until next time, keep casting and chasing those dreams on the water.
