This morning, while Tania went shopping with her friend Beth, I seized the opportunity to load up my bike and head to my favorite spillway spots. The day turned out to be productive, with plenty of action and a variety of fish caught on a few trusty lures.

At the first spillway, I landed a bluegill and a Mayan cichlid. I caught the bluegill on a 1/32 jig head paired with a Crappie Maxx Baby Shad in the electric chicken color. Meanwhile, the Mayan cichlid hit on the same lure but in the threadfin shad color. I also tested the chartreuse and Cajun critter white variations, but they didn’t get much attention, so I stuck with what worked.

Moving to the second spillway, the electric chicken Baby Shad was unbeatable. I reeled in five small bass and one 15-inch bass. This stretch turned out to be the highlight of the day. After about 15 minutes, the bite died off, so I moved on to the next spot.

I shifted to another section of the canal for spots three and four, hoping to keep the momentum going. Unfortunately, these areas were quiet, with no fish activity. Determined to end on a high note, I tried one more spillway before heading home. This spot redeemed the dry spell with a few more small bass falling for the electric chicken Baby Shad.

Despite a couple of unproductive stops, the day was a success. The Crappie Maxx Baby Shad in electric chicken and threadfin shad proved to be the go-to baits. I made it back in time to meet Tania for lunch, capping off a fantastic morning on the water.
