Quick Trip!

On Sunday, Tania had a three-hour appointment in Stuart and she asked me to take her. Since I was going to have three hours on my hands, I brought one rod/reel and a 1/4oz Texas Eye jig with a 3 1/2in Original Slam Shady. I dropped Tania off at 4pm and headed out on my fishing adventure.

Once I dropped Tania off, I headed to Shepard Park. It was only 63 degrees with NE winds at 15-20kts and misting off and on. It was hard to tell, but I believe it was an incoming tide and the water was a dark root beer color.

I started fishing near the docks and worked my way around the point. As I was fishing, I had two kids in an aluminum boat come in fishing with pilchards. When I say young the oldest one looked maybe 12. It is great seeing kids fishing on their own, but not sure if I would let my young kids drive a boat by themselves. I asked if they had caught anything today and they told me a few but none in the cove we were in.

I kept working the wall and right near the first bend I had a few hits, but they were smaller fish as they chased the slam shady to the surface and I could see them. It was a quick glance, so I was unable to identify them, but it was a bit of action.

After about 45 minutes of working the wall, I moved out to the walkway that went further out into the ICW. I would alternate between the river and the pound, not sure what it’s called but it’s connected to the ICW; however, it was very shallow water leading into it. Shortly after the bend I was surprised by the thump of a Snook taking my bait! It’s an incredible feeling when you feel that thump. I ended up landing a 24inch Snook.

I ended up working the rest of the walkway and even walked the dock to really worked the pond. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any other bites the rest of the trip. I got back to the car just as Tania texted me, she was ready to be picked up. What perfect timing!

The weather was kind of crummy, but I had a good trip exploring a new area. I only caught one fish but that’s I need in order to have a good trip! I enjoy the hunt. Tania and I pray all who make it out the rest of the week have a blessed and safe trip. May you have tight lines and good times!
