On Sunday afternoon I had time to kill as Tania had an appointment in Traditions. I fished the Traditions Pound for an hour using the Slam Shady Paddle Tail and the Moonwalker Top Water bait. Despite my best efforts, I did not catch any fish during my walk around the pound.

The water temperature was moderate, and the weather was overcast with a stiff north wind. The water clarity was good, with visibility up to 2 feet below the surface. I noticed there were occasional surface disturbances, likely indicating the presence of feeding fish; however, the fish I saw were big Tilapia. I did not see any bass.

Although I did not catch any fish, I did have a thrilling encounter with a 2 1/2-foot alligator. On my last cast of the day, I saw the alligator chase the Moonwalker from across the pound. The alligator came within a few feet of the bait at which time I reeled in quickly to prevent him from grabbing it.

It’s important to note that alligators are common in all bodies of water here in Florida. It’s important to exercise caution when fishing in areas where alligators may be present. If you encounter an alligator, do not approach it or attempt to feed it. Instead, slowly and calmly move away from the area!
