On Tuesday morning, Tania asked if I wanted to go fishing. She was hoping we could both get an entry into the Treasure Coast Chapter of Salt Strong Tournament. This month’s tournament is three entries for five species (snook, trout, redfish, black drum, and sheepshead) with one entry per spices.

I called Jigz & Bait Tackle to ensure if they were open for the holiday and to see if they had any shiners. The owner Mike answered the phone and made my day by telling me he had shiners. Tania and I picked up a two dozen shiners and headed to the spillway down the road from our hours.

We fished from 9:00am to 10:00am. We didn’t catch a lot of fish due to the Florida gar constantly stealing our bait. We went through the two dozen shiners and Tania caught a large-month sleeper fish as well as a Mayan cichlid, and I caught a Mayan cichlid, a soft shell turtle, and right as we were getting ready to leave, I landed a micro snook.  I was hoping for both Tania and I to catch a snook, but at least we got one entry into the tournament.

We have until July 15^th to get the rest of our entries so I am sure we will be back at the spillway in the next week. Tania and I are planning on making another trip to the boils this weekend.
