October 2, 2022, was a great day fishing with my buddy, easily one of the finest I’ve experienced in months. The day began with a touch of uncertainty. On Thursday evening, my friend Ed and I contemplated hitting the docks at around 10 a.m., all while keeping a close eye on the weather as the forecasts predicted rainstorms in the Fort Pierce area.
When I woke up and checked the weather, it appeared that the rain would likely pass south of us. However, Ed had been watching Fox News, which warned of heavy rain in the Fort Pierce and Vero areas around 10 a.m. We discussed possibly canceling our fishing plans, but I decided to take the risk since I didn’t spot any thunderstorm warnings.
I didn’t mind getting a bit wet, and since I was considering canceling our Saturday boat trip with Tania due to uncertain weather, I was determined to squeeze in some fishing this week. Ed cautioned that we might get wet, but he was still up for it. So, we set out, hitting the dock at around 9 a.m. and headed out!
Since we had a strong north wind blowing, we explored the eastern shoreline just south of Thumb Point. The drift was almost perfect, and shortly after we began our drift, Ed hooked up with a snook that managed to throw the hook just as it reached the boat. Our day took a delightful turn as we drifted down to Bear Point. This particular drift turned out to be incredibly fruitful. In two hours, we caught six Jacks and 15 trout, with all the trout measuring between 15 ½ inches to 19 ½ inches.
Ed and I felt incredibly fortunate to have enjoyed a fantastic day of fishing. Around noon, we decided it was time to head back to the dock, our two-man limit of trout securely on board. To our surprise, we returned to the dock without getting a single drop of rain on us. It was the perfect ending to our fruitful day on the water.
Tania and I pray that all who made it out this week had blessed and safe trips. For those of you who will hit the water, may you have tight lines and good times!
