Tania and I met Captain Isaiah Michael of Reel Finesser at ICAST in July, and we talked about booking him to target big redfish for our birthdays. We originally planned our trip for October 21^st, Tania’s birthday; however, we have Reel Blessed’s first surf fishing event. We spoke with Captain Isaiah and moved our date to Sunday, October 15^th.

Tania and I arrived at the boat ramp around 6:30 a.m. and met with Captain Isaiah. It was still dark as we boarded the boat and set out on our adventure. It was a chilly boat ride out to our fishing location; however, once the sun came up, it warmed up.

Captain Isaiah was good at locating the schools of redfish. We pulled up to the first spot, and he told us exactly where to cast. Tania started by throwing Nomad Design Squidtrex, and I threw Vertrex Max Vibe. Tania didn’t take long to hook up; I hooked up as she brought in her fish. Tania landed a small crevalle jack while I was fighting my fish. I had something decent on, and it took a bit to get to the boat. Tania wasted no time in recasting and hooking up with a decent fish.

It was amazing to have Tania and I hooked up with large redfish first thing in the morning. I was praying this indicated how the rest of the day would go. Once we had both our fish onboard, the captain wanted to get a picture of both of us holding our fish.

For those of you who know Tania, she does not like holding fish! As she was sitting down, the captain just plopped the fish in Tania’s lap for the picture. I was so proud of Tania as she held the fish without gloves on. You could tell she was being pushed out of her comfort zone, but she was stepping up!

By the time our trip ended, we each caught three over-slot reds ranging from 30-39 inches, numerous jacks, a few ladyfish, and a few bluefish, all on artificial baits. We were also blessed by seeing multiple sea turtles, manatees, and dolphins.

We are grateful our birthday gift turned out so well. The Lord blessed us with good health, a beautiful morning, catching our personal best redfish, and seeing His wonderful creations. Thank you, Tania, for a great birthday present!
