A Surprise Fishing Adventure

On Sunday afternoon, Tania invited a few friends to a little get-together. On Monday, she was starting a strict diet, so she wanted to have a hors d’oeuvre party before she was restricted on what she could eat. The girls started to arrive about 1:00 pm. I did not want to disturb the party, so I planned to leave the house at about 1:00 pm and return at about 4:00 pm.

I left the house just after 1:00 pm and had to run a few errands before I could go fishing. Unfortunately, my errands took me a bit longer than I had hoped, so by the time I got to Indian Riverside Park, I only had about 45 minutes to fish.

It was about 2:30 pm by the time I got my lines wet. On one rod, I had a sandflea on the bottom to see if I could catch a sheepshead; on the other, I had a 1/4oz pink and white goofy jig. On the fourth cast of the goofy jig, I got hit. With the head shakes, I started thinking it was a jack. However, the good Lord blessed me with a 13-inch pompano!

A few casts later, I had a nice hit, and my drag started to scream; however, it was short-lived. About five seconds of drag screaming whatever I had popped off. I am unsure if the commotion of catching and hooking fish attracted the dolphins, but they showed up right after I lost the mystery fish.

Once the dolphins showed up, I did not get another bite. I spent another 30 minutes throwing the goofy jig and the sandflea on the bottom. At about 3:00 pm, I cleaned my catch and started to head home.

Even though my time was short, I had a blessed afternoon. I completed the errands I needed to get done; the rain stopped, and I was able to fish for an hour and bring home supper! I generally don’t like fishing alone, but sometimes it’s good to be alone in God’s creation, reflecting on the day’s blessings.

Tania and I send our best wishes to all fellow anglers, hoping your fishing adventures are safe, blessed, and full of tight lines and good times! Until next time, keep casting and chasing those dreams on the water.

Yes. The ones in the river tend to be more colorful
