Tight Lines and Good Times: Fishing Fun with Tania!

Tania and I haven’t been fishing together in a few weeks. I hoped we could get offshore and fish in the same area that Keir and I did on Friday. The forecast was 3-4 ft seas at 11 seconds; however, the wind was 10-15kts. On Friday evening, Tania was exhausted from a long week at work, and with the higher winds, we weren’t sure we would even go fishing.

Saturday morning, I woke up at 5:00 am and checked the weather buoy, which was reporting 2.6ft seas at 11 seconds, and the wind was dead calm, so I woke Tania up. While Tania got ready, I loaded the truck. It was 6:30 am by the time we arrived at the dock.

Once the boat was loaded, we headed out. We made it out of the inlet. It wasn’t too rough, but the seas seemed to have picked up some. We ran to the first area I had caught some sheepshead the morning before. It was about 7:30 am by the time we were wetting our lines.

We used the same baits I used on Friday, but the bite was much slower. It always amazes me how big of a difference a day can make. The winds kicked up about 10:00 am, and by 11:00 am, we decided to head in as it started to get pretty sloppy, and the bite was slow. In the four hours we were fishing, we only caught about 15 fish. We caught sheepshead, black margate, mutton snapper, yellowtail snapper, lane snapper, spanish mackerel, a jack crevalle, a sennet, and a few grunts.

It was nice to try out some new spots and catch some fish. Overall, it was a great day spent with my best friend. I am so grateful to have a wife who is my best friend and loves to fish as much as I do.

Once we got home, I packaged all the sheepshead and black margate from both Friday and Saturday, which gave me 6 lbs of meat. And I prepared the Spanish Mackerel for supper since they don’t freeze well. I marinated the mackerel in avocado oil and added some fresh Asian chili peppers from my garden, as well as garlic powder and some siracha season salt.  I then threw it on the grill as I prepared some rice. There is nothing better than fresh fish for supper!

Tania and I send our best wishes to all fellow anglers. We pray your fishing adventures are safe, blessed, and full of tight lines and good times! Until next time, keep casting and chasing those dreams on the water.
