Tania and I had a full day planned, but we managed to sneak out for a few hours on the water this morning. We left the house around 6:15 AM, packing light with just a few rods and artificial baits. The goal was simple—catch a few trout and enjoy the morning, with no intention of keeping any fish.
On the way to the dock, we said our usual fishing prayer, asking for protection, open eyes, and the chance to catch a few fish. We arrived at the dock around 6:30 AM Since we didn’t need to stop for ice or bait, we loaded up quickly and headed out.
The plan was to run straight to Bear Point and target trout. We arrived around 7:00 AM and began drifting north with the outgoing tide and a steady southeast wind.
On my first cast, I got a hit but couldn’t connect. The second cast was a different story—almost immediately after the bait hit the water, I hooked a solid trout. I was throwing a 4-inch Salt Strong paddle tail in the “Wedding Crasher” color on a 1/4 oz Hoss-weighted hook, and that setup proved to be the key. Every fish I landed today came on that same bait.
Tania worked hard, cycling through colors like Slam Shady and Optimus Lime, but mostly ended up donating paddle tails to puffer fish. At one point, while I was re-rigging her line, she grabbed my rod and hooked a nice trout. Unfortunately, it came off right at the boat—definitely a tough break and her only real shot at a fish this morning.
I ended up catching four trout during our short trip. We wrapped up and headed back to the dock around 9:30 AM, making it home by 10:00.
Short trip, simple plan, and a few fish to show for it—but more importantly, a great morning on the water with my best friend. Tania and I send our best wishes to all our fellow anglers. May your time on the water be safe, blessed, and filled with tight lines and good memories. Until next time, keep casting, keep believing, and keep chasing those dreams on the water.
