On Sunday, a few of the guys from work and I headed down to Jupiter to fish with Good Time Charter Fishing. I told everyone to be there by 7:30, thinking the trip ran from 7:30 to 11:30. Around 7 am, I got a call from the captain asking where we were — turns out it actually kicks off at 7.

Luckily, everybody had shown up early anyway, so we only ended up pushing out a few minutes behind schedule. We ran out through Jupiter Inlet, and it didn’t take long to get lines in the water. I caught the first fish of the day on my very first drop, a 10-inch lane snapper. That was about as good as the bite got, honestly — it stayed slow the rest of the day. The captain worked hard for us, moving us around to about five different spots trying to find willing fish, but they just weren’t cooperating.

Between us, we still put together a decent mixed bag — snapper, porgy, and a strawberry grouper. The highlight of the day, though, wasn’t even one we caught. As one of the fish was coming up, a massive bull shark trailed it all the way to the boat. Everyone on board was watching that one. We ended the trip with two lane snapper, one porgy, and the strawberry grouper. We wrapped it up with lunch at the Square Grouper right at the dock.

Slow bite or not, it was a great day hanging out with the guys I work with outside the office, in my element for once, not theirs. Tania and I send our best wishes to all our fellow anglers.
