On Friday night Tania told me due to the marine forecast being 10-15kt winds and a moderate chop on the intracoastal she didn’t want to go on the boat. With her anxiety I didn’t want to push it, so we canceled the boat. We got up Saturday morning just planning on spending time together, as I am getting ready to travel for work.

My buddy Gil called me about 8:00am to see how we were doing, as I told him the day prior, we would be out fishing. I told him we canceled, and he proceeded to tell me how nice it was on the water and the bite was on fire.

When Tania heard this, she said let’s go fishing at one of the piers. I agreed and we got ready. I decided to try Jensen Beach Causeway to see if we could jig up some pompano. We arrived at the bridge about 11:30am, which was about half an hour before high tide. I was told high tide was our best chance to catch pompano.

Sadly, no one was catching any fish, so Tania and I decided to take a short trip further south to Indian Riverside Park. We got there and several people were already fishing, including Tony Rose from On Foot Anger. With a professional on the pier, I thought for sure we picked the right spot to fish. While walking past those already fishing, I found out some of the guys already had fish in their cooler, which was a good sign.

I got Tania baited up and while I was baiting my hook, Tania caught the first fish of the day. She caught a good size oyster cracker. Boy are they an ugly fish and they have huge mouths. Unfortunately, we did not get a picture of the fish.

It didn’t take too long for us to go through all our bait, since I only got a few dozen. In that time, we caught several short Mutton Snapper, a few short Mangrove Snapper, a few stingrays, a short Blue Runner and a 16-inch Croaker, which I ended up giving to Tony.

Tania and I had a good time fish and talking with the others on the pier. I think meeting new folks and making new friends is what it’s all about. What better way to spend the day with my best friend than making new friends as we are fishing!
